This tour is part of our BEE (Budget Educational Experience) program. The standard programs provides accommodation (including pre-paid city taxes in Italy!), breakfasts, coach transfers and one excursion per city, which allows for a lot of flexibility, plus you can add one or more optional packs to your BEE program to increase your educational content and reduce your planning:

  • You are busy teaching. Send us your risk assessment document and we will complete the tour section for your perusal. We are familiar with our overseas venues, hotels and locations and able to cover more details. This will assist you with all important H&S angles.

Your Itinerary:

Assemble at Airport. Depart Australia for Milan

Meals on the plane – 1 connection – Minimum layover time

Land in Milan airport, where you will be met by your TETC Representative. Board your private coach and transfer to the hotel, where you will check in. In the afternoon, you will visit Il Duomo (admission included). An exceptionally large and elaborate Gothic cathedral on the main square of Milan, the Duomo di Milano is one of the most famous buildings in Europe. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the second largest Catholic cathedral in the world. The roof climb provides a unique and memorable opportunity to walk high on the roofs of the huge Gothic cathedral. The views are magnificent and the opportunity to see the pinnacles and sculptures along the way is worth the climb alone.

Breakfast at your accommodation and check out to join your coach heading to Venice. On the way, you will stop in Verona and see the “old castle”, Castlevecchio. Built by Cangrande II della Scala in the 1350s, a tyrant that even this stronghold could not protect, the castle it has also been a barracks and military academy. See the bridge across the Adige and visit the museum, before joining your coach again for Venice. Enjoy lunch and this lovely city before continuing onto Venezia Mestre. Arrive at your hotel and check in. You have free time for the rest of the afternoon.

Venice is a city unlike any other. Seeing it in photos and movies, does not capture the spirit of the city. Walk between the little does not capture the spirit of the city. Walk between the little islands via the many arched (stepped) pedestrian bridges. After breakfast, make your way to the Basilica San Marco. The first church on this site was burnt down by rioters, so the basis of St Mark’s Basilica was built in 1071. This building was in fact a private chapel for the Doge up until the 1807 when the role of the Doge was ended and Venice joined the kingdom of Italy. You have the rest of the day free to explore Venice.

After breakfast at your hotel, checkout and board your coach to transfer to Ravenna. At three different times in history, Ravenna has been the capital of different empires – the Western Roman Empire, the Kingdom of Theodoric (king of the Ostrogoths) and the Byzantine Empire. The city is famous for its mosaics, which you will see at the exquisite Neonian Baptistry. You can visit some of the other key UNESCO World Heritage listed locations to see the influences each of these empires left behind. Basilica of San Vitale and the or see visit the Mausoleum of Theodoric and Tomb of Dante Alighieri.

Breakfast and checkout, for today your coach takes you to Florence. On arrival, you have a walking tour of Florence visiting San Miniato al Monte Church, Piazzale Michelangelo, Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Vecchio, the Town Hall of Florence. Take some time for lunch and spend your afternoon exploring this beautiful Renaissance city.

As a centre for art in the Renaissance, there is much to see in Florence. On your second day you have time to explore, perhaps to stroll the streets or visit one of the many galleries or notable sites. At around 3pm, return to your hotel to collect your bags and join your coach to travel on to Rome.

Since the days of the Republic and the Empire, Rome has left a lasting legacy on the Western World. Since its conversion to Christianity, the Roman Catholic Church has continued this influence across the globe. After breakfast at your accommodation, travel by Metro to the Vatican for a guided tour of the Vatican Museums. You will have the rest of the day to explore the Eternal City.

Sorrento is part of the city of Naples that sits on the Bay of Naples, part of the Almalfi Coast. Known for its lemons, the streets are lined with fruit trees and the small village is a popular destination for tourists of all kinds, from cruise ships to celebrities. It is close to the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum and the beaches are awash with dark volcanic sand. Local artisans of Marquetry (wood work, especially as art) and other handicrafts fill the small laneways and wide modern pedestrian street mall. Use Sorrento as your base for this region and enjoy the small town atmosphere.

Using Sorrento as your base, take your time exploring the region – perhaps today you will take an excursion to Pompeii, Herculaneum?

Time slows down outside the big cities. Sorrento is the city of “La Dolce Vita”. Take your time to explore the byways of the town, visit the churches or museums – or perhaps plan an activity locally such as visiting gelato makers or an olive farm.

Sorrento is part of the Metropolitan City of Naples. The Circumvesuviana train is a convenient way to take a day trip to see Naples proper and all it has to offer! Admire baroque churches, underground Greco-Roman ruins, and famous streets like Spaccanapoli with shops selling traditional Neapolitan nativity figures, mozzarella, costumes and souvenirs. You might also include the Naples Archaeological Museum which has an extensive collection of the finds from Pompeii.

After breakfast, checkout and leave your luggage in storage. This is your last day on the Amalfi Coast! Perhaps some souvenir shopping or visit those sites you didn’t have a chance to see, before joining your coach to Rome for your departure.
